The Old Town of Edinburgh was inscribed as an World Heritage Site in 1995.
Plenty of magnificent Scottish medieval architecture can be seen anywhere along the Royal Mile, the main thoroughfare of the Old Town from Edinburgh Castle at the top of Castle Rock down to the Holyrood Palace where the Queen takes up her residence in Scotland. Walking through the steeply sloping streets and narrow haunted closes also offer a special experience. The Old Town is the heart of the city which makes Edinburgh so unique.
