Great Wall of China 萬里長城

The Great Wall of China was built and rebuilt between the 5th Century BC and the 16th Century mainly to protect the Chinese Empire from the Mongolians and other invaders. The Great Wall of China stretches over 4,160 miles or 6,700 km westward from the eastern seaside town of Shanhaiguan to Gansu Province. Around two to three million Chinese died during the centuries-long project.
According to NASA, it is the only manmade object that is barely visible to astronauts from low earth orbit under good conditions. The Great Wall was inscribed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.

Badaling, northwest of urban Beijing in Yanqing County, was one of the sections we chose to experience the Great Wall. Many stairs were very steep and temperature was a little below of the city's average as the highest point of the section is at least 1,000 meters above sea level. I must admit that the Great Wall is one of if not the best man-made and natural wonder for travelers and photographers, but try to avoid peak seasons.
