The district is located 6 miles east of central London and best known for its maritime history and home to the Greenwich Meridian (0° longitude) and Greenwich Mean Time, a standard measurement used for calculating time everywhere in the world. The historic stie of Maritime Grrenwich was inscribed as an World Heritage Site in 1997.
