In March 2009, the number of non air-conditioned fleet has dropped to less than 180, or approximately 4.2% of the KMB fleet. They will soon be replaced by new buses within a few years, most likely by 2012.
Despite heat, these non-ac buses, or "hot dogs" called by the locals, are preferred over air-conditioned buses especially by elderly simply because of better fare, but there are also people who prefer fresh air over AC especially when riding on the countryside routes or during the winter.
The current non-ac fleet consists of 3 types of buses: Leyland Olympian (11m), Dennis Dragon (11m) and Volvo Olympian (11m).
