Tai Po District is an area of New Territories located north of Shatin and covers the areas of Tai Po as well as the northern part of Sai Kung Peninsula. Tai Po used to be a traditional market town, but the population has soared following the completion of Tolo Highway in 1985. The district is also connected by Tai Po Road, the second longest road in Hong Kong that spans from Sham Shui Po through Shatin to Tai Po. Hong Kong's first industrial estate was built in 1974 in the district.
